| Many UU students and employees must have breathed a sigh of relief when D66 emerged as the winner of the Dutch elections. The party favours reversing the budget cuts and increasing spending on education. Those positive feelings may have been dampened somewhat by the absence of coffee on campus after faecal bacteria were found in the city's tap water. Meanwhile, the university said goodbye to its president, Anton Pijpers, who has retired after dedicating almost his entire career to UU.
