University students and employees from the whole country were taken by surprise last week when a big protest against the government's austerity measures was cancelled last minute. Though the mayor of Utrecht said the safety of protesters couldn't be guaranteed, about 3,000 students demonstrated anyway and everything went smoothly. The same can't be said about the latest occupation of a UU building by pro-Palestine protesters: the riot police was called once again.
