Student association Veritas is launching an awareness campaign against sexual harassment, following the report by Amnesty International revealing that one in ten women are raped while they're university students in the Netherlands. Who’s in the running for the UU student awards this year?

To mark the opening of each academic year, Utrecht University awards two prizes: one for the author of the best Master's thesis, and one recognising the exceptional extracurricular activities of a student or group of students. These are the nominees for the 2021 Student Awards. Read more

Creepy gift left at Veritas' door
|
A bloody sheep's head was left at the door of student association Veritas, located downtown. Nobody knows who did it and why. "This is really creepy, the neighbours are creeped out too", reacted Veritas' chairperson, Laura Baartmans. The police is investigating the matter. Read more

Worried about classes on campus? Other arrangements are possible
|
Those who are concerned about their health once UU starts offering classes on campus again, this time without the 1.5-metre distance rule, will have to talk to their manager or study advisor to investigate alternatives. UUers are expected to take self-tests regularly and a vaccination station will be available on campus. Read more

Mass exams allowed again from September 20
|
From September 20, Dutch higher education institutions will be allowed to hold exams for groups larger than 75 students, provided that they are able to ensure that everyone observes social distancing. For lecture halls, libraries and canteens, the limit of 75 people per room still applies. Read more

UU introduces ombudsperson for staff and students

Soon, UU employees will be able to contact one of the two new ombudspersons if a conflict isn't settled satisfactorily by their managers. The ombudspersons will also conduct investigations on the culture of specific departments. UU students will have their own ombudsperson. Read more

Trams will only run again from September 6
|
The renovation works on the tram tracks connecting the Utrecht Science Park to Utrecht Central Station are taking longer than expected. That's why there will be no trams running between August 23 and September 5. Busses will adopt a different timetable because of that. Read more

Amsterdam among best cities to pursue higher education abroad

Amsterdam has risen three spots in the QS Ranking of Best Student Cities, occupying the 21st position among 115 cities. London tops the list, which classifies cities with over 250,000 inhabitants according to criteria like affordability, diversity, and subsequent employment opportunities. Read more
